Importing roles and rate cards

IN THIS ARTICLE
Easily import roles and rate cards from any spreadsheet or csv format
Import roles on the roles page is the single way in. It opens on AI import, which reads a rate sheet in whatever shape it arrives and builds the roles, costs, currencies and margins for you, with no column mapping to do.
Importing roles with AI
Drop a file on the drop area, or choose one, and Estii starts the import. Progress shows on the roles page, and the roles land when it finishes.
Uploading manually
If you would rather map the columns yourself, follow Upload manually below the drop area. The same dialog switches to the role importer, which takes any spreadsheet or CSV format with inline mapping and an import preview. Import with AI on its first step takes you back, until you move on to matching columns.
1. Select file
Drag and drop any csv or spreadsheet file. Or download the csv template.

2. Verify local data
Verify the contents of your selected file
- Select which worksheet to import (if spreadsheet contains multiple tabs)
- Toggle on/off the header row
- Select which column to use as the external ID (optional). External IDs link each role to a record in another system, so re-imports update the matching role even if its name has changed.
Verifying the data
3. Match columns
Match uploaded columns to required/optional fields, with inline preview.
- Estii auto matches based on name, or your previous successful import (so you don’t have to remap every time)
- Inline preview of matched data with validation and formatting hints to help you map to the correct fields
- Some fields include default values for cells with missing (or invalid) data
- Can import numbers or pre-formatted numbers (e.g. $100K)
